JOB DESCRIPTION  

ABOUT THE ROLE  

We are keen to appoint candidates to the role of Lecturer/Assistant Professor/ Associate Professor / Professor in Leadership and Human Resource Management (LHRM). Working as part of multi-disciplinary teams, you will be responsible for contributing to an exceptional student experience through the delivery of teaching, research, knowledge exchange and business and enterprise engagement activity. Based at our Newcastle campus, you will assist the Head of Department to maintain, enhance and improve the Department and Faculty's national and international reputation in your academic field. Demonstrating your continued academic attainment and achievement, you will provide academic leadership through contribution to your discipline and the life and work of the faculty. We are seeking research-active individuals with teaching experience across the following sub-disciplines:  

• Business Ethics and Corporate Governance;  
• Leadership and Management Development;  
• HRM and Employment Relations (including HR Development);  
• Human Capital Analytics;  
• International HRM (including International Employment Relations);  
• Organisational Behaviour (including Cross Cultural Organisational Behaviour);   
• Organisational Studies; and  
• Public Management (including Public Leadership and Policing Management).  

Colleagues appointed into our Lecturer grade are usually early career academics who are supported through their probationary period to develop their Academic profile. Upon completion of probation objectives these colleagues are automatically moved into the Assistant Professor role.  The selection panel will assess your application and discuss with you which role you are being considered for at selection and appointment stages.

ABOUT THE TEAM  

The Leadership and Human Resource Management (LHRM) department is home to around 100 academic staff that are housed across three interrelated subject groups:  Human Resource Management, Management Development & Leadership, and Organisation & Ethics. Each subject group is proud to own successful undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes (approximately 1800 students), with some of these also delivered at our London and Amsterdam campuses, via Distance Learning or with our international partners.  We offer a wide range of undergraduate (BA Business and HRM and BA Business Management), postgraduate (MSc Global HRM and MSc Business and Management), and doctoral degrees specialising in leadership, human resource management and business management. Our programmes are professionally recognised by the Chartered Institute for Personnel and Development (CIPD),Chartered Management Institute (CMI) and other professional bodies and are underpinned by world-leading research.  

Our research is organised around three core research interest areas: public policy and management, sustainable working futures, and responsible business. The 2021 REF results placed our research power at 9th in the rankings for Business and Management Studies. The department of LHRM has made several notable contributions to business and management studies in each of these areas. Since 2021, LHRM colleagues have published in journals such as Human Resource Management Journal, Human Resource Management, British Journal of Management, Academy of Management Learning and Education, Journal of Business Ethics, Personnel Psychology, Journal of Management, Gender, Work and Organisation, Work & Stress, International Journal of Human Resource Management, Work, Employment & Society, Industrial Relations Journal, Public Management Review, Public Administration, Regional Studies, Journal of Organizational Behaviour, and Journal of Occupational and Organizational Psychology.  

Our knowledge exchange (KE) portfolio is continuing to proliferate as we develop strong partnerships to deliver a force for good. We have a strong record of collaborative and contract research, CPD, consultancy and knowledge transfer partnerships (KTPs) across the public, private and third sectors. Among our most significant initiatives is our pioneering work with Mersey Care NHS on developing restorative just cultures (over 1,200 people from 25 NHS Trusts have completed this programme so far), our leadership and career development work with the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), and our leading role in the delivery of the Help to Grow Management programme, supporting small and medium sized businesses to boost their business performance, resilience and growth.

As an externally recognised academic with a strong national and or international reputation you will evidence sustained research output of a quality that is internationally excellent in terms of originality, significance, and rigour.   

An experienced academic leader you will demonstrate success in the leadership and management of people, teams, and projects, in particular supporting the development of academic colleagues.  

You should demonstrate definition and development of your academic field and have significant and strong record of securing funding from a range of sources.
