Institutional theory is shaped by the philosophy of phenomenology. However, phenomenology as a research methodology - that aims to study individuals' lived experiences - is seldom applied in institutional studies. The aim of this PDW is to return to the phenomenological roots of institutional theory and to discuss the different types and opportunities for phenomenological methodologies.

Through different presentations, this workshop introduces participants to ...
... phenomenology (Renate Meyer, WU Vienna & CBS),
... phenomenological methodologies (Michel Gill, U. of Oxford)

and relevant institutionalist concepts such as
... institutional complexity (Mia Raynard, WU Vienna),
... place and space (Mélodie Cartel, UNSW),
... time and temporality (Juliane Reinecke, King's College London),
... emotions (Madeline Toubiana, U. of Alberta), and
    ... taken-for-grantedness (Christopher Steele, U. of Alberta).

During the subsequent breakout sessions, participants develop research ideas related to these concepts, using a phenomenological methodology.
