As the 2024 AOM PNP Program Chair, I have the pleasure of inviting you to submit and review for the AOM Annual Conference. I hope you will submit your best work, serve as a reviewer, and encourage fellow colleagues and doctoral students to do so as well. The AOM Call for Submissions is available online, and the PNP Division Call for Submissions is below. The submission center is now open.

The Public and Nonprofit (PNP) Division invites scholarly submissions for the 84th Annual Meeting of the Academy of Management, which will be held from 9 August to 13 August 2024 in Chicago, Illinois, USA.

The PNP Division

The PNP Division brings public affairs scholars together to facilitate the advancement of organizational and management theory while focusing on public and nonprofit sector dynamics. Nestled within the expansive canvas of the Academy of Management, our gatherings present a unique setting to exchange and integrate ideas. Our interaction with the broader Academy fosters interdisciplinary collaboration, elevating public and nonprofit scholarship. Simultaneously, public and nonprofit scholars bring unique perspectives to enrich the Academy's discourse. This intellectually stimulating environment, along with opportunities for full manuscript feedback and professional development, makes PNP Division meetings among the premier academic conferences in our field.

The Conference Theme

When preparing your submission, we encourage you to connect to this year’s conference theme: “Innovating for the Future.” Please consider submissions that rethink conventional ways of leading, managing, and organizing in the public and nonprofit sectors. For instance, what are today's most innovative government and nonprofit programs and practices intended to address unfavorable conditions such as political polarization, social and economic inequalities, and environmental degradation? How are public and nonprofit employees using new technologies, such as generative AI, to assist them in their jobs? In what ways are emerging innovations and technologies leading to unfavorable outcomes or bias in public and nonprofit organizations?

We also welcome scholarly submissions that do not directly pertain to this year’s theme. PNP scholars study many important topics, including organizational and political behavior; cross-sector partnership and collaboration; public policy; and the social and ethical dimensions of public and nonprofit activity. PNP scholars often pay special attention to how distinctive qualities of the public and nonprofit sectors influence organizational processes. The division encourages and welcomes diverse research approaches from econometrics to ethnography and participatory action research to computational methods.

Submission Instructions

The AOM Submission Center opens in early December 2023. The submission deadline is 9 January 2024 at 17:00 ET (GMT-5/UTC-5). Only electronic submissions through the submission center will be accepted. Submissions must follow the AOM submission guidelines to be considered. Please note that scholarly sessions (paper sessions and symposia) will take place Sunday, 11 August through Tuesday, 13 August 2024.

Call for Reviewers

The PNP Division relies on the work of volunteers. Please consider signing up to serve as a PNP Division reviewer for the conference. The review period will commence from mid-January through mid-February 2024. Doctoral students are encouraged to serve.

PNP Division Awards

Conference submissions to the PNP Division are eligible for our best paper awards, and the PNP Division is home to several achievement awards.
