Greetings,
A colleague and I are trying to find a house for a paper that
addresses "Social License to Operate" for oil companies. I am
attaching below the abstract. We are having some difficulties
pinpointing a nice A'ish level journal that would be receptive to our
research. Your input would be appreciated, thank you.
ABSTRACT
Scholars contend that stakeholder cooperation provides a firm with an
enabling resource that offers it the potential of a competitive
advantage. However, firms in democratic societies are highly dependent
on a resource defined as a “social license to operate.” The premise of
the social license is that societies precede shareholders in granting
companies the right to exist. The goal of this study is to explore and
empirically test the multi-dimensional role that stakeholders play as
an enabling resource for an organization. The first section will
examine the construct defined as the social license to operate (SLO)
as a strategic resource to be garnished by corporations. This section
will include proposing a conceptual framework for analyzing the
antecedents of the social license. More specifically, it will examine
the influence that an individual’s values have on the perceived
credibility of organizations that either support or challenge these
values. The second section of this study will proceed to test this
conceptual framework by conducting an industry-specific empirical
study (N=854) of the antecedents of the social license to operate.
