NASPAA Emerging Scholars Award
Application deadline: June 30, 2014
While NASPAA has always focused on excellence in public service education,
its membership has also recognized the close relationships between public
affairs scholarship and public affairs education. Indeed, the next
generation of inspiring instructors are current PhD candidates that are
exploring the boundaries of our knowledge, developing new methods for
advancing our understand of the public sphere, and seeking answers to new
and enduring questions about policy and administration.
NASPAA is sponsoring a conference panel that will be comprised of up to
three Emerging Scholars at the 2014 NASPAA Annual Conference in Albuquerque,
NM. The selected scholars will: be awarded a monetary prize of $350,
complimentary registration to the conference, and $300 toward travel
expenses. More importantly, selected scholars will present before leaders in
the field.
To qualify, applicants must:
- Be a PhD candidate at a NASPAA school
- Intend to seek an academic position during the 2014-2015 academic year but
not yet hold a faculty appointment
- Have their advisor certify that they are expected to graduate before
August 31, 2015
- If selected, attend and present at NASPAA’s Annual Conference
Application process:
To apply, candidates should submit the following materials to
awards@naspaa.org:
- Completed paper that will serve as their ‘job market paper’
- Current CV
- Letter from candidate highlighting the contribution of the paper
- Letter from the dissertation chair (a) outlining the contribution that the
paper makes, (b) discussing how the student’s dissertations work is
advancing the field, and (c) certifying that the student is expected to
graduate no later than August 31, 2015.
- Submissions should include the candidate’s office, cell, and/or home phone
number and preferred e-mail address
Submissions should include the following text in the subject: Emerging
Scholars Nomination for <candidate name>. Candidates may submit all
materials together or ask their dissertation chair to send her or his letter
separately to the same e-mail address with the subject: Chair’s letter for
<candidate name>
