Public Policy / Political Economy
The Department of Political Science seeks an assistant professor in Public Policy / Political Economy, beginning August 2008. Required qualifications include a Ph.D. in Political Science, Public Administration, Public Policy, Economics, or related field; the ability to teach cost-benefit analysis, operations research, and management science methods. Desired qualifications include prior teaching experience; extensive training in political science and/or public policy analysis and methodology; a demonstrated ability to teach and perform research in public policy; a substantive research interest in environmental policy and/or knowledge of governmental finance. While the position is housed in political science, the successful candidate will teach doctoral-level courses to students with diverse disciplinary orientations (such as geography, public administration, international policy, public policy, criminal justice, and history) in the MPA Program and the interdisciplinary Public Policy Ph.D. Program. Candidates are expected to contribute to the Public Policy program through an active research agenda oriented towards public policy.
The Department of Political Science has 23 faculty members, and houses a NASPAA-accredited MPA Program and is a core constituent in the interdisciplinary Ph.D. Program in Public Policy. The MPA Program, currently with nine faculty members, has strong ties to local governments and non-profit organizations in the greater <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:city w:st="on">Charlotte</st1:city></st1:place> metropolitan area. Most students in the program are working professionals taking courses at night.
