Dear Colleagues:
As you well know, healthcare is divided into public and not-for-profit
organizations. The Academy of Management is one of the largest sectors of
non-profit organizations in America. The Academy of Management is holding a
Doctorial Consortium at their 2009 Annual Meeting that will provide for you
a view of healthcare you may not have previously had.
Studying Healthcare Organizations has several benefits:
Healthcare Organizations are everywhere, making them amenable to
international study
There are large publicly available data sets
They bridge For-Profit and Not-For-Profit domains
Heavy reliance on technological innovation in the field
Healthcare spending in 2008 reached 16.6% of the US GDP and is expected to
reach 20.3% by 2018
There are opportunities beyond business schools, including public health,
private sector positions at federal agencies, and think tanks such as Rand
Mathematics
Lastly, but certainly not least, healthcare gives you the opportunity to
make a difference in the well-being of others through management research
We would like to invite you to join other students and professionals in the
healthcare management field for the Academy of Managements 2009 Annual
Meeting. The AOM Annual Meeting will be held in Chicago, IL from August
7-August 11. For more information on the Academy of Management and the
Annual Meeting, please visit http://www.aomonline.org/.
