My name is Jackie Eder-Van Hook. I am a doctoral student at Fielding
University undertaking dissertation research on the use of interim
    executive management services in nonprofits.

I hope you can help, I am looking for study participants who:

    * Served in a nonprofit or association as an external interim
executive since 2000 on more than two occasions.
    * Held the title of interim or acting chief executive officer (CEO),
executive director, president, executive vice president, or equivalent
title indicating that the individual held the senior-most position
reporting directly to the board of directors.
    * Served in a nonprofit headquartered in the US.
    * Was not a member of the board of directors or staff before, during,
or after the appointment, except as required by the organization's
    bylaws.
    * Agree to participate in interviews, respond to follow-up questions,
    and review the interview transcript.

Attached is a flyer that provides an overview of the study, which
seeks a narrow group of individuals. The best way to find these
individuals is through referrals. I would appreciate you sharing this
information with others who might be interested in participating in
this research or send me their names and email addresses for me to
contact. I can help them determine whether they meet the criteria for
this particular study or get their permission to contact them for
future research. If so, please email the person's name, email, and
    phone number to me jeder-vanhook@email.Fielding.edu.

Over the past decade, boards of directors facing an executive
transition have used interim executive management with greater
frequency. Beginning in 2001, I began delivering interim management
services. Ever since then I have been interested in discovering
relevant academic theories to explain my experience, and those of my
colleagues. In the past four years, I have attempted to understand
what information and research already exists about interim executive
management. This effort will culminate in my dissertation research.

This study will provide important information to the interim
management field and nonprofit governing boards experiencing or
anticipating an executive transition. I intend to interview
individuals who have served as external interim executives in
associations and nonprofits that experienced executive leadership
succession. The research will involve searching for themes and drawing
on the insights from the experiences of those external interim
executives. The findings will contribute to the body of knowledge
    about interim management services.

Participants likely are to find this to be a positive and reflective
conversation. Participation is 100% voluntary. Nothing said will be
attributed to the participant and any specific quotes will be
attributed to a pseudonym. Names of people or organizations mentioned
during the course of the interview will remain anonymous and not
identified in the research. This study will take approximately 2½-3
hours over a three-month period. At the conclusion of the research, a
summary of the study findings will be available to participants in
    appreciation for their time.

Thank you for considering. I appreciate your time and interest in my research.

    All best, Jackie
