Dear List Member:
Sage plans to publish a two volume reference work on Nonprofit Leadership in
September 2010. Due to unforeseen difficulties for selected authors, there
are several chapters that still need to be written. The due date is upon us,
February 16, 2010 at the latest.
If you would be interested in submitting a chapter. Here are the details:
The reference book is designed for undergraduate students with an interest
in philanthropic and nonprofit leadership. This means the chapter should
NOT be heavily referenced. Zero to 10 citations is their preference. Also,
they do NOT want an extensive bibliography 1-5 "classics" or key books or
journal articles on the topic will be sufficient. While the chapter can
include a few figures/graphs or other visuals, they would like to keep these
to a minimum.
The tone of the article and it's organization should reflect your individual
style. The chapter needs to be 7,000 words. Also, as you write it will be
helpful to the audience if you can provide guidance for undergraduates
regarding how they might apply what you are writing about or how they might
prepare themselves for their future careers in nonprofit leadership based on
the topic.
The topics that still need chapters are:
1) Leadership Issues involved in the relationship between nonprofits and
government
2) Leadership of nonprofit research and public policy oriented organizations
3) The relationship of nonprofit organizations (including foundations) to
the humanities
4) Ethics and grantmaking
5) Key nonprofit leaders and organizations (how they have shaped the sector)
from the Civil War to the Great Depression
6) Key nonprofit leaders and organizations from the 1969 Tax Act to Present
7) Nonprofit leadership in securing and managing foundation grants,
endowment issues, and taxation (UBIT etc)
8) Legal and transparency leadership in grantmaking foundations
9) An overview of the national nonprofit infrastructure organizations (a
survey and orientation to who does what): Foundation Center, Independent
Sector, regional associations of grantmakers etc.
10) Leadership of a membership association. In particular looking at
servant leadership and the issues that arise for volunteers who represent
local affiliates when they serve on a national membership board.
In addition, we would entertain an idea that is of particular interest to
you, assuming a chapter has not already been written on the topic.
If you have an interest. Please contact me as soon as possible. Thanks in
advance.
