Social Movements, Stakeholders, and Nonmarket Strategy

Sponsors: OMT, SIM, BPS, PNP, ONE
    Time: Saturday, Aug 8 2015 1:30PM - 4:00PM
    Place: Vancouver Convention Centre

    in Room 001

The realms of civil society, markets, and the state are inherently entangled – offering both interesting and important implications and opportunities for management research. To explore these interactions, we're convening a diverse array of scholars for an interactive professional development workshop, bridging the research domains of social movement theory, stakeholder theory, nonmarket strategy, and organizational theory. Our goal is to start an inter-disciplinary discussion as we build a community of scholars interested in the interactions of social movements and firms within their broader environmental contexts.

The PDW will consist of three segments. In the first, we'll hear from a panel of leading scholars who will share their insights as to how the various research domains addressing civil society and market interactions connect, inform each other, and offer opportunities for future research. In the second segment, we'll break into small, themed groups where deeper discussions about innovative research questions, settings, and methodologies will take place. In concluding the PDW, we'll reconvene as a group to hear the results from each roundtable and engage in a broader discussion about future research ideas.

Our goal is that participants leave the PDW with ideas for new research projects, connections to other scholars with similar interests, and resources for further exploring the various theoretical approaches to investigating social movements and markets. We hope that you'll join us.

Pre-registration is required for this workshop. To register online, please visit
https://secure.aom.org/PDWReg. The deadline to register online is July 27, 2015. After registering, participants will be asked to complete an emailed survey indicating their roundtable topic preference.
