Assistant Professor
The Institute of Public Service (IPS) at Seattle University seeks a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor beginning in September 2019. IPS seeks outstanding candidates with a strong background in community development and urban studies. This position primarily supports the Bachelor of Public Affairs program at SU, which combines coursework in public policy, management, social sciences, and humanities to prepare undergraduate students to contribute to public and nonprofit sectors that are equitable, effective, and socially just (https://www.seattleu.edu/artsci/undergraduate-degrees/public-affairs/).

Responsibilities include teaching courses in the Bachelor of Public Affairs and Master of Public Administration programs, maintaining an active high-quality program of scholarship, and performing university, college and departmental service. Teaching expertise should include some combination of the following areas: community development, urban studies, urban policy, urban sustainability, or planning. Secondarily, candidates should have an interest in social or environmental justice issues. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to teaching excellence, solid scholarly potential and a demonstrated commitment to diversity and the university's mission and values. The candidate may be expected to teach both in-person and hybrid courses that make use of on-line technology.
Minimum Qualifications: Candidates should hold a Ph.D. in public administration, public policy, urban planning, urban studies, or closely related field and should demonstrate expertise in community development, urban policy, or urban sustainability. Evidence of an active research agenda and teaching effectiveness is required.
