Dear scholar, dear colleague
Hope that this message finds you well. We would like to call your attention to the PDW on “Measuring Social Impact: A New Performance Dimension in Strategic Management?”, which we are organizing in the forthcoming Academy of Management Conference (Friday, Aug 4 2017 4:30PM - 7:00PM at Hyatt Regency Atlanta in Embassy Hall A). It will be a great pleasure and honor to have you in the workshop.
In the last decades, management scholars have examined ways through which firms can build profitable operations while at the same time addressing pressing social and environmental concerns. Private and public interests have become increasingly interdependent as for-profit firms, nonprofits, and governments learn and discover opportunities for mutual collaboration. But how can these actors ascertain whether their isolated or collaborative efforts are truly generating positive impact to their target populations? Measuring real impact requires addressing several issues related to causality, comparability, and cost (given that most methods require customized data collection and analysis).
In this sense, the objective of this PDW is to discuss and stimulate research on the strategies, challenges, and limitations to measure the impact of public, private or hybrid (collaborative) projects addressing socio-environmental needs. Besides an opening talk on the importance of impact measurement for research in strategy and related fields, the PDW will have four complementary presentations with actual examples of impact measurement in the context of public and private organizations. A discussion section with invited scholars and PDW participants will follow, with the objective to pinpoint potential and interesting areas for future research.
More information about the PDW can be found here: http://my.aom.org/program2017/SessionDetails.aspx?sid=12049; and a detailed schedule with the topics and presentations is below.
Hope that you will consider attending the workshop. If possible, please circulate this message with other scholars or students interested in the topic.
Best wishes
