Eastern Connecticut State University seeks a tenure-track faculty member in the field of Management, with special emphasis on the "micro" subspecialties (e.g. Organizational Behavior, Human Resources, or Employee Relations). This person may teach in our interdisciplinary Master of Science in Organizational Management (MSOM) program and in our undergraduate programs (Business Administration as well as Labor Relations and Human Resource Management). Depending on the successful applicant's skills, course assignments could include introductory courses in Management, HR, and OB as well as more specialized courses such as International Management, Supervision and Training, Compensation, Leadership, Negotiations, Industrial Labor Relations, and Employment Law.
Eastern is located in Willimantic, Connecticut, fast-becoming an arts and cultural center of northeastern Connecticut. Known for its Victorian architecture, Willimantic played an important role in the economic development of the region in the 20th century. Eastern faculty, staff, and students are involved in the renaissance of the region in the 21st century, including such projects as the Willimantic Whitewater Partnership, whose mission is to recapture the riverfront for recreational, educational, and environmental purposes. Not far from Willimantic are major northeastern cities, including Hartford (30 miles), Providence (45 miles), New Haven (70 miles), Boston (100 miles), and New York (140 miles). Connecticut's largest beach (on Long Island Sound) is also a short drive from Willimantic.
Within the Connecticut State University System, Eastern is the state's designated public liberal arts college. In this role, Eastern develops students who can become productive, engaged community and business leaders. As a predominantly undergraduate institution, Eastern attracts and welcomes a diverse community of learners, supported by a teaching faculty, staff, administrators, and a residential campus, all of which promote intellectual curiosity, integrity, and social responsibility. There are approximately 5,000 students at Eastern, nearly a quarter of whom are Business, Accounting, or Business Information Systems undergraduate majors or graduate students in the Master of Science in Organizational Management (MSOM) program.
Students often report that they chose Eastern because of its friendly, family-like environment, small classes, and rich student-faculty interactions. Eastern also offers a wide variety of opportunities for entertainment, engagement, and enlightenment thanks to active visual and performing arts departments, concert and lecture series, and numerous educational and cultural activities provided for the campus community.
Eastern's commitment to a liberal arts education is exemplified in its Liberal Arts Core Curriculum, a sequenced, interdisciplinary program that all students share, independent of their majors and career aspirations. The Business Administration Department encourages application of the liberal arts core within its majors, requiring both an international and an ethics component of the program. Eastern's newly-established Labor Relations and Human Resource Management interdisciplinary major has increased the need for courses in Labor Relations, Human Resources, and Organizational Behavior. At the graduate level, the MSOM program is also interdisciplinary, drawing together faculty from the Business Administration, Communication, and Psychology Departments. We are seeking a faculty member who is able to teach at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, add to the department's ability to offer electives in related areas, and contribute to the University's strategic initiatives.
The position requires a PhD or equivalent in a related field (e.g., Business, Employment Law, I/O or Social Psychology, Labor Studies, or Public Administration), evidence of specialization in the field of management, evidence of research potential, evidence of ability to teach, and evidence of ability to contribute to the university and the profession. Applicants who have the ability to teach other business fields (e.g. Marketing, Finance, Operations, Accounting, or Information Systems) should indicate their secondary field. Evidence of collaboration with colleagues in liberal arts disciplines will also be considered.
We invite applications from candidates who have a strong commitment to teaching excellence, creative activity and scholarship, student advisement, university and community service. ECSU is especially interested in faculty with demonstrated innovation and excellence in teaching in a liberal arts curriculum, and sensitivity to diverse populations and perspectives.
Screening will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. Applications should include a current curriculum vitae providing evidence of how well your experience matches the qualifications listed above. Send it to the search chair, Elizabeth Scott at the following email address: scotte@EasternCT.edu. Please include your last name and "Management Faculty Search" in the subject heading.
