CALL FOR NOMINATIONS
Best Dissertation Award
Dear Colleagues,
The Best Dissertation Award Selection Committee for the Public and Nonprofit Division of the <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:placetype w:st="on">Academy</st1:placetype> of <st1:placename w:st="on">Management</st1:placename></st1:place> is requesting nominations for the division's 2006 Best Dissertation Award. As you know, this is an outstanding opportunity to honor important academic work; such distinguished awards can help define a scholar's career.
This prestigious award is sponsored generously by Jossey-Bass publishers. Dissertations defended between January 1, 2006 and December 31, 2006 are eligible for this award. (NOTE: any dissertations considered by the Committee this past spring for the 2005 award cannot be submitted for reconsideration).
At the <st1:placetype w:st="on">Academy</st1:placetype> of <st1:placename w:st="on">Management</st1:placename> national meetings in <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:city w:st="on">Philadelphia</st1:city></st1:place>, the winner will receive a plaque recognizing the award, as well as awards of $250 in books from Jossey-Bass and a $100 check from the Division.
Dissertations addressing an aspect of the Division's domain are welcomed. The domain statement is as follows:
State and civil society, which include public and nonprofit organizations such as government agencies, the military, social services, cultural and educational institutions, membership and professional associations, and advocacy, religious, and charitable organizations. Major topics include: decision making; strategy; organizational behavior and human resource management; political behavior; collaboration and conflict among public, nonprofit, and private organizations; service and community-building; organizational networks involving public and nonprofit organizations; theories of governance; public policy; and the social and ethical dimensions of public and nonprofit activity. Special attention to how distinctive qualities of the public and nonprofit sectors influence management and organizational processes.
Nominators should send the committee TWO hard copies of nominated dissertations, along with a letter of nomination by a faculty member outlining the distinctive strengths of the work. All documents (dissertations, faculty letters) must also be sent electronically via email in MS Word, and virus-free.
Nominations must be received by February 1.
