Diversity management is a universal concept which, while it travels around the world, is being differently translated and interpreted according to the local context (Calas et al., 2009). Scholars from various countries have attempted to provide national country perspectives and sometimes comparative papers in previous contributions dedicated to equal employment opportunities (Jain et al., 2003) or diversity management and equality (Klarsfeld, 2010). Comparative research remains however relatively scarce (Klarsfeld et al, 2012).
I would like to invite transverse international thematic contributions ; thematic comparative contributions drawing on multiple countries but on one or a limited number of themes such as individual strands, like race, gender, religion, etc., but also enforcement mechanisms, degree of diffusion of diversity management, and other themes.
Thematic contributions are attempts at comparing multiple countries on one or a limited number of specific themes relevant to equality and diversity. Thematic author teams are preferably multi-country and undertake a comparison exercise between their own respective countries and possibly other countries. Some themes are pre-determined below while some other can be proposed beyond these. Pre-determined themes include gender, origin (such as race, ethnicity, nation, tribe, caste), age, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion and belief, but this should not be seen as a limitation as various countries may differ on which strands they are working on and how they define them. Comparison efforts may also include comparison of enforcement mechanisms of EEO/AA legislations such as dedicated bodies and comparison of sanctions on the strand; comparison of the degrees and modes of embracement of the diversity strand by firms in the countries and current debates surrounding the various countries under study; or the study of backlash.
Contributions should be 6 000 to 10 000 words including references. Shorter, developmental papers will be considered. Intentions should be sent to Alain Klarsfeld, a.klarsfeld@tbs-education.fr. First drafts by April 30, 2014. Second drafts by July 31, 2014. Book to be published in 2015.
