All PNP members are invited to the presentation of the 2007 Accenture
Advances in Public Management Award. The Accenture Award goes to the best
article appearing in the International Public Management Journal in 2007.
The 2007 winner is:
Laurie E. Paarlberg
for her article "The impact of customer orientation on government employee
performance,"
International Public Management Journal, Vol. 10, No. 2: pp. 201-232
The Accenture Award will be presented at the Public and Nonprofit (PNP)
Division Business Meeting during the 2008 Annual Meeting of the Academy of
Management. Monday, Aug 11, 2008 from 5:30PM - 7:30PM at the Anaheim
Marriott, [Room: Orange County 4 ], 700 West Convention Way, Anaheim,
California, USA
The winner was selected by a distinguished committee of James March,
Stanford University; Martha Feldman, University of California, Irvine; and
George Boyne, Cardiff University. The award will be presented by Martha
Feldman and IPMJ Editor Steve Kelman.
The selection committee has made the following statement in support of this
choice:
"The paper uses survey and interview data to address a core proposition of
the "new public management" --- the relation between customer orientation
on the part of managers and employees and their motivation and performance.
The discussions of the results are intelligently cautious and nuanced,
drawing useful distinctions between service beneficiaries and
'institutional' customers and between managers and staff. The author
recognizes both the limitations of the data and the complexity of the
relations but offers hope for understanding and a good foundation for
future work on this topic."
The committee and the entire editorial board of International Public
Management Journal congratulate Laurie on this award, which includes a
$5000 cash honorarium and a plaque. We also thank Accenture for their
support of this award and thereby for high-quality public management
research.
IPMJ, International Public Management Network, and Accenture will also
sponsor the PNP social reception following the business meeting.
This award will be ongoing each year, and we call this to the attention of
potential authors considering submitting manuscripts to IPMJ.
Congratulations again to Laurie, and we look forward to seeing you all in
Anaheim.
