    Hello everyone,

    For those of you who will be attending this summer's Academy of Management meeting in Chicago, we wanted to invite you to what promises to be a very interesting professional development workshop (PDW), featuring prominent Chicagoland area pastors and several management scholars from around the world. A brief abstract and pre-registration link are included below. Apologies for any cross-postings.

    ** Pre-registration is required for this PDW by July 10 (today). Please register on the AOM website: http://secure.aomonline.org/PDWReg/logon.asp to register for this workshop.**

    Going to Church: Examining Issues of Management & Organization Behavior in Religious Organizations (OFFSITE)
    "Going to Church"

    Organizer: Nicholas A. Pearce; Northwestern U.;
    Organizer: Jeffrey A. Robinson; Rutgers U.;
    Organizer: Patricia Faison Hewlin; Georgetown U.;
    Organizer: Jay A. Hewlin; Life Management Institute;
    Organizer: Richard N. Hayes; Hofstra U.;
    Participant: Marci B. Littlefield; IUPUI;
    Participant: Joseph P. Eshun; East Stroudsburg U.;

    The focus of this session is to stimulate interest in an emerging area of management and organizational research that uses one of society's most enduring institutions as a phenomenological context: the Church. To this end, this session will bring together academic researchers and prominent Chicagoland area pastors for a lively, interactive panel discussion at the intersection of theory and practice to better understand what the Church can teach organizations, how the Church can inform and influence organizational scholarship, as well as how research on management and organizations can influence the practice of leadership and management within church organizations. Moreover, this session seeks to provide rich insight to scholars into how to move from interest in the phenomenon, to papers that journals will publish. This session will convene at one of Chicago's largest churches, the Apostolic Church of God, located in the historic South Side community of Woodlawn, and will include a guided tour of the facilities. Pre-registration is required.

    Attendees will meet in the Fairmont lobby at 9 am for bus pickup. Pre-registration is required. To register, please visit https://secure.aomonline.org/PDWReg. The deadline to register is July 10, 2009.
