International Research Society for Public Management
launched.
For the last decade, the International Research Symposium on
Public Management has brought together an increasingly
influential and international research community around the issues
of public management and public policy implementation. At the
Tenth conference, held at Glasgow Caledonian University in April
this year, this community took a new step forward by formalising
its network as the International Research Society for Public
Management (IRSPM). Founding President of the Society,
Professor Stephen P Osborne of Aston University said This is an
exciting step forward for our research community. IRSPM is the
one truly international and inter-disciplinary society devoted to the
study of public management. It is well positioned, and committed,
to fostering collaboration with other leading bodies in the field in
order to drive forward state of the art research and theory about
public management.
Professor Jean Hartley, of Warwick University, said she was
delighted to have witnessed the establishment of a Society
devoted to high quality research and which presents a significant
resource for both the academic and practitioner communities.
Professor Larry Lynn of Texas A & M University also heralded
the founding of IRSPM as formalizing an important international
community of scholars and Professor Owen Hughes of Monash
University welcomed the founding of the Society as the fruition
of twelve years of successful conferences and collaborations.
In addition to supporting and developing the conference itself the
new Society will promote collaborative research and dissemination
initiatives with such bodies as the European Group on Public
Administration and the American-based Public Management
Research Association and will support the further development of
its adopted journal, Public Management Review. Professor Elio
Borgonovi of Bocconi University has additionally emphasized that
the support and development of doctoral students is also a
prominent aim of the Society.
Queries about membership of IRSPM should be forwarded to the
Membership Secretary Zoe Radnor (
zoe.radnor@wbs.ac.uk). The
11th IRSPM Conference will take place in Potsdam, Germany,
over 2nd 4th April 2007 and more information is available from
the conference coordinator, Kerry Brown
