Call for Papers
The Journal of Public and Nonprofit Affairs (JPNA) is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal that is sponsored by the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and published by the Midwest Public Affairs Conference (MPAC). JPNA is focused on providing a connection between the practice and research of public and nonprofit affairs. This is accomplished with scholarly research, practical applications of the research, and no fees for publishing or journal access. JPNA publishes research from diverse theoretical, methodological, and disciplinary backgrounds that address topics related to the affairs and management of public and nonprofit organizations. The content of the journal spans the spectrum from public finance and organizational behavior to health administration and veterans' affairs.
Review Process
JPNA uses a double-blind peer review process and reviews manuscripts on the basis of substance, methodology, originality, and relevance to JPNA's readership. Upon submission to the journal, all papers are sent to (at a minimum) three reviewers. Reviewers are selected based on their expertise in the area related to the submission.
Contents
In addition to research articles, JPNA also publishes survey essays, current issues in practice articles, and book reviews:
Research Articles
Research articles address topics relating to (but is not limited to) state and local government management, nonprofit management, intergovernmental relations, organizational theory and behavior, civic engagement, budgeting and finance, human resources; and ethical issues in public affairs. Articles are expected to adhere to scientific standards and provide a discussion of the application of the research to the practice of the discipline. Manuscripts should be no longer than 12,000 words, including the abstract, references, and tables. The submission of a manuscript is an indication from the author(s) that the manuscript has not been published elsewhere and is not currently under review at another publication.
Survey Essays
JPNA publishes survey essays and articles that synthesize the research on a broad topic that would be of interest to both academics and practitioners. The successful survey essay will tell the reader what we know about an issue, with what confidence we know it, and what questions or debates remain.
Current Issues In Practice
In pursuit of its mission to link research with the practice of public and nonprofit affairs, JPNA publishes practitioner-based research under its "Current Issues In Practice" heading. Articles accepted for the section focus on the application of public and nonprofit affairs principles to the work of public and nonprofit administrators. Examples include case studies and other applied research.
Book Reviews
Books that are well-researched, make an original contribution to the fields of public and nonprofit affairs, and that would have an interest to academics and practitioners will be considered for review.
How to Submit a Manuscript
Manuscripts may be submitted directly to our submission site on the JPNA website:
www.jpna.org.
Style
Readership of the journal includes both academics and practitioners. Author(s) are encouraged to write such that the content of the manuscript is accessible to both groups. At a minimum, author(s) are requested to include a discussion of the practical application of the findings to public and nonprofit administrators.
