"Behind the Scenes of Highly Cited Organizational Ethnographies"

This PDW is right for you if you're interested in immersive research approaches, especially in organizational settings. You will get to hear the back-story on what went into producing some of our field's most fascinating organizational ethnographies. This PDW will inspire you and offer a much-needed boost of motivation and support for your own ethnographic or immersive work.This PDW is structured to enable participant interaction with these scholars and to build community with each other in four different segments and formats. First, each scholar will share a narrative detailing a particular experience and insight from their fieldwork:
- Bryant Hudson: Ethnographic observations in stigmatized contexts
- Emily Heaphy: I, the ethnographer: relational dynamics with participants
- Mark de Rond: Fieldwork in extreme contexts: negotiating access and surviving
- Michael Smets: Analyzing ethnographic data: the insider-outsider perspective
- Pedro Monteiro: Representation and translation: ethnography in the Global South
- Tamar Gross: Insights into the review process of organizational ethnographies
Next, participants will engage with scholars in a panel discussion with Q&A, followed by peer-to-peer connection and community-building in an interactive environment. Lastly, participants will join small-group roundtable breakouts in which a panelist scholar facilitates discussion on a specific stage of the ethnographic process (from field site access through journal reviews).Space in this PDW is limited and has always filled quickly; preregistration is required and participation is on a first-come, first-served basis.
